My G7 has developed an engine knock. When the knocking starts my car wants to idle at 1100 + RPM's. Went to the dealer and they said ... yep you got a problem and we know about but their isn't a fix yet. Oh and don't worry it doesn't hurt anything. I was told it's in the WEL valve setup, which I might agree since it sounded high and to the rear of the engine. One thing that bothers me is I've never noticed a knock that didn't harm anything, .... I mean two pieces of metal are hitting each other!

a Knock is when the piston is in the compression stroke of the motor and the spark plug fires too soon and the piston (even with the combustion occurring) has to finish the compression stroke hence a Knock

This is never a good thing and can occur by changing from 93 octain to 87 or vise versa.

what type of gas are you using.

But what the H ell you have a it covered because it is new!

Did you check the oil level. I don't think the type of gasoline is the cause if you are at idle. Pinging or knocking usually occurs under load.

Yep! It is under warranty. Don't worry, be happy! Check and change oil to premium brand, try another gas station such as Chevron use premium gasoline if you aren't), and then flog the car to see if it starts behaving well.

I really don't think flogging is always the answer. He didn't even mention if the motor was broken in yet.
