engine knock

2010 Nissan Versa 1.8L Engine knock then you hear a compression hiss. Engine has been replaced twice. 42000 mils on car. Any thoughts on what is wrong?

It sounds like a knock but it's not. It's a flawed design in the engine itself. We've replaced several for the noise and actually had the replacement engines make the noise worse than the original. It's on the number 3 cylinder that it's most prominent. The 2012 HR16 redesign has oil squirters under each cylinder to spray oil on the bottom side of the piston during the combustion stroke to eliminate the sound.
