Engine knock

04 Altima 3.2L 58K miles

Engine started knocking recently, can't get a good handle on where it is coming from. But seems to be passenger side on outside of motor. Its fairly loud and doesn't seem to increase in volume or pace when motor is revved. It's also intermittent. Any advice or info is appreciated before we take it in.. Thanks!

Check the oil. Mine uses a quart every 2000 miles or so and if I haven't stayed on top of it and it gets a quart low, it will make some noise at startup.

Should have reported back earlier, forgot I had posted. The A/C clutch and compressor mechanism imploded on itself. Fixed at just under a grand.
