I had the nissan foreman, give a listen to my car today, and he said that it was most like the the timing chain rattling and the clutch fan screeching. I was just wonder how much it would cost to replace the clutch fan and replace(tighten?) the tensionor. Just a ball park figure at the local shop. Also I was thinking about trying to do this myself, the only experience I"ve got is when I replace the gasket on my valve cover, is this way too much to take on myself?

do lots of reading before you take this on. I am a firm believer of you can do anything if you put your mind to it. but yes this jub is quite a task and requires abit of knowledge to perform successfully. there is no adjustment for the tensioner. genrally what happens with these chain engines is the guides break . not sure which engine you have dohc(plug wires through the center of the valve cover) or sohc(plugs near the exhaust manifold) there are different incedents that happen between the 2 engines. the clutch fan replacement is a piece of cake. 4 nuts R & R clutch and blade. you dont even need to loosen the belts to do it. take a look at some of the other posts reffering to chain issues it will give you an idea of what happens with the chain for your engine. and it might give you an idea of what you will be doing.

if its the one on the top of the dual cams toss it you dont need to replace it. this would peice would just be laying on top of the chain once you remove the valve cover right?
