I recently bought a 2002 Q45 beautiful car. Unfortunately it has a very loud engine knock. There are no codes stored. There is plenty of oil in the engine with no leaks. It is however in a limp state and has absolutely no power beyond 5-10 MPH I'm worried but I only paid $800 for the vehicle so I'm not as worried. I have a video of the noise if anyone can help.

Yea, sadly you don't get any codes when you eat up your rod bearings. At first I assumed the knock sensors would only catch higher frequency pings from the head/block versus the semi-isolated crankshaft hardware but I just went on with life without solving that great mystery.

Due to the oil consumption habits of these engines, it's not too difficult to run the engine dry with a little neglect. Even when you top it off, the damage is done.

Welcome to NICO!

Post up the video if you'd like, probably wouldn't hurt to verify, but like EdBwoy says the engine is likely toast. How many miles on the car?

:welcome:

Hopefully the headlights are in good shape... you can get most of your investment back on eBay if you don't feel like replacing the engine.

All true. Sadly, the F50s are fast approaching the point where a reasonable engine replacement almost exceeds the blue book value.

OP, if you will, update your profile or let us know where you are located and more specs/options on the car. Helps us help you with more location-relevant advice and options.
