I have a 1985 Nissan 720 with a carbuerated Z24 motor. A few weeks ago I blew the head gasket, so i pulled the head off and it was blown between cylinders #3 and #4. So I replaced the head gasket and put everything back together and timed the motor to stock timing using a Chilton's. After everything was back together i was having ignition timing issues and found that the dizzy was 180 off, fixed that and my truck started and ran, but there was a pretty nasty rod knock, which i assumed was the rod bearings. So the other day I pulled the oil pan off and replaced the rod bearings and put everything back together, just like it came off. The knock smoothed out a lot, but there was still a slight tick which i figured might be a valve. Now today after driving it a few miles the tick became louder and a new vibrating/rattling noise has started. These noises smooth out at about 2500 RPM.
I am completely lost as far as what could be going wrong now, the crankshaft was in perfect condition when I replaced the rod bearings and the journals had slight scrortch marks on them, but nothing bad. Is it possible that one of the new bearings have spun? (and YES, I soaked all the bearings in oil) maybe a bad lifter or a bent or loose pin?
Any advice/help would be appreciated!!!!
