I have Changed out the Autolite AP3924 Platinum/Copper Core Plugs for the correct plugs that Go in this Car, The NGK Laser Cut Double Platinum PFR5G-11 Plugs which is supposed to be the standard plugs according to the original 1993 Infiniti J30 Shop Manual from the trunk compartment (Pg. MA-13/Maintenance Section). I Must say I was shocked by the fine point on the electrode of these NGK plugs, that was a first in spark plug technology for me. In any case I confirmed that all 6 plugs were correctly gapped at ".044". I have adjusted the Throttle Sensor. I am not 100% on what the correct idle speeds are for the 1993 J30 and how to adjust them. I had to replace two Ignition Coils on Plugs 5 and 6 in the back as I damaged the original ones installing them (Very Long story), Thank Got for Salvage Yards. They Only had One 1993 Infiniti J30 there on the Lot and absolutely No Z-Cars, Thank God the Ignition Coils were there. :woot:

The Car runs great over 2000 RPMs and even better with the correct plugs. I was never loosing gas mileage or performance and I am still not. My Service Engine Light has not blinked at any time. I know that I could manually check the ECM but I have not figured how to unmount it from the kick panel and I really would not want to force anything to damage it as this car has cost me a chunk of change this month, that I personally don't have.

Basically Any suggestions, I would welcome on the next course of action in a step by step format would be most helpful.

Thanks,

Larry

Remove MAF, spray with cleaner, do not touch inside wire, let dry, replace

I had the same problem when I first got my j. i did clean the MAF and the whole air intake system but It ended up being the knock sensor. Sometimes the j's throw a check engine light for the knock sensor and sometimes they don't. But the code will still be there when you check.
That was just my situation. Yours might be different

I cleaned my MAF Sensor with the CFC MAF Cleaner, yesterday afternoon and it helped somewhat to smooth it out. When this sputter issue started, It was very sudden and started toward the last couple of weeks in July. I am no Mechanic, PC/MAC repair tech or many years I am...But Mechanic...No. I do have very limited tools and definitely not the funds for High Dollar repairs as I am on a very fixed monthly income and don't have credit cards to fall back on, So I must make do with what I have to spend monthly. That being said, I am not sure how to dismount the ECM from the kick Panel without damaging anything in order do the manual checks on the ECM Via the set screw and LED light. This car is very little driven because I really cant afford to feed her the Premium Only Gas, Although this is all I have used for the most part since I purchased the car in Sept of 2008 at 132k. I Have mixed with Mid-Grade a few times but noticed a difference in the performance and didn't do that but maybe twice. After Hurricane Fay came through and dropped an inordinate amount of rain here in East Charlotte, NC (Late August of 2008) and All I could get was Regular unleaded gas for a couple of weeks. So I had to use it once with two cans of Octane Boost for the car to get by and function. So with this history and information is this helpful? And To check the ECM I need pictures on dismounting the box from the kick panel with detailed instructions.

OK Guys, I finally Got this car back to normal and purring like the Japanese kitty she has always been. I believe that "Fourdrinie" Had the correct Idea in this case with cleaning the MAF Sensor Thoroughly. But however it seemed somewhat delayed of a couple of days that she gradually smoothed up more and more as It was driven. I have personally never cleaned a MAF sensor before but its nice to know as a maintenance or preventative measure to periodically clean the sensor. The CFC MAF Sensor cleaner Bottle recommended doing so every time the Air Filter is changed. I would say that yes my spark plugs needed to be done, And to use the correct double platinum plugs, But Yes it was also the MAF sensor being dirty, I think was the main culprit. I just want to say Thanks to This website and the numerous folks that Have helped me with the minor issues that I have had with this car since my purchase of my J in September of 2008. I will make a suggestion that we should to have a posting in like a general maintenance section with not only checking the ECM in detail for errors but How to dismount it from the kick panel safely. :dblthumb:
