okay so i got my engine {s13 redtop} all lined up with the mounts and as i lower it the driver side wont go all the way down. there is a pipe coming from the rights side of the head and it goes down to where the exhaust connects with the manifold, and that pipe is resting on the steering column so it cant lower. wtf

It's the AIV system. Remove it entirely as you don't need it. Don't forget to plug up the hole it will leave in the turbo extension

remove it entirely from the aiv, all the way down to the pipe itself.

like they said remove it, all of it and plug the hole where that copper tube goes into the turbo elbow. You can get a plug at lowes in the plumbers section. I would take the turbo elbow piece off, take it with me to lowes and try different plugs till I found one that fit nicely (that's what I did anyway). Or you could just get a cheap megan racing turbo elbow that's gonna look nicer and the hole for the AIV tube won't even be there.

i started romoving the aiv system, and i got some instructions off of the faq post here, but i dont think they are for the same setup cause my **** looks different. Is this black box part of the system,if so what is it? im thinking the airbox or something. and where is the solonoid i need to remove and what does it look like. Im obviously not familiar with the aiv system.

Whoa, is it just me or is that coolant line not hooked up to anything?? The one that goes to the back, coming from the turbo?

But that black box is the factory catch can. It shouldn't interfere with the installation.

Try taking off the heat shield.

The stock heat shield doesn't interfere with anything and even though they can get ugly they're useful enough to be worth not getting rid of.

The T fitting in the above pic without a hose on it is supposed to be routed to your intake pipe between the MAF and turbo. That allows the crank-case fumes to be recirculated and burned off, but if you have excessive blow by then you will cake the inside of your intercooler with oily sludge in no time. I personally have it routed to a catch can instead of the intake with a breather filter on the "out" port of the catch can. The breather filter is pretty well saturated with oil vapors but it took 6 months or so for that to happen. I'd rather let them collect there than in my intercooler piping.

And yes, that hard line behind the cylinder head is the coolant return line from the turbo. Is there something jammed into the end of the pipe? it's Very important that it get's hooked up properly. There should be a straight ~6" rubber hose that connects it to another hard line back there.

just take it off theres so much **** you don't need, and for that bar you need to cut it or else you wont' be able to turn. just cut if off close to the exhaust
