it could be an injector. are you sure it's definitely coming from within the cam cover? check your injectors and make sure that's not the source of the noise

make sure you are not running the bosh platinum 2 prong or 4 prong plugs those cause ticking.....i just changed my plugs 3 days ago and my mystery tick went away. my buddy put those in while i was in iraq.

it very well could be dirty hydraulic lifters. try running a can of BG MOA additive in your engine oil. that stuff worked wonders on my miata a couple years ago that had horrible lifter tick and my SR just recently had a slight tick. i added the stuff and within two drives i was without ticking.

i also forgot to include...while i was driving before my car started ticking loud...it missed out a few times, like it has a couple misfires, i was on the interstate in 5th gear at like 3k rpm and my revs dropped down to 1 then back to 3, back to 1 then back to 3k rpm, it happened real quick, so maybe i need new spark plugs and new wires

Almost any ticking sound coming from the valve cover of a KA24DE is timing-chain related----usually the chain slapping the upper/side guards. I'm sure it's different for the KA-E, but perhaps this could be the same source. I doubt it's fuel injectors--why would they tick?

Fuel injector most definately do tick, some very loudly. If you have a stethoscope, or can ghetto-rig one, move it around the valve cover, and put it on top of each injector untill you find where the noise is coming from.

Or take a screwdriver and put the flat head on the injector then put your ear on the end of the handle. Thats how i figured out it was my injectors ticking when i first bought my 91' KA24DE

If it's coming from the valve cover, I would assume there's a lot greater chance of the noise being caused from either lifters or the timing chain than from the fuel injectors...but ya learn something new every day.

that's how i found my #3 injector was bad.

Here's an odd thing for you. I replaced the injector, and the ticking stopped, but came back within a few minutes.

I had the same problem. And yes it was the lifters. I used BG MOA and the ticking went away. EXCEPT, around Houston, you can't get ahold of this unless you're a mechanic. I looked everywhere and can not find them. I wanted to use BG on my other cars... but I guess I'm SOL.

really? around here they have it at autozone, or at least a few autozone's have it.... the stuff does it's job for sure though.
