My 1994 Q45 has times when it does not want to idle with out dying. At times while I am driving the engine momentarily stalls (quits) for a fraction of a second and then is ok again. In the old days a clogged fuel filter would do this. I looked under the hood to find the filter and did not feel I found it. I went to the auto store to buy a repair manual to popint out various components, and did not find one. This is as far as I have gone. Any suggestions?

Clean your Maf sensor and the connections going to it. If that does not work, maybe the maf is on it's way out.

Thank you for the reply. What does Maf stand for? Where is it located and what does it look like? How many wires go to it?

if cleaning doesnt help it may need to be replaced... Only way to tell is to replace it with a known good one...

The fuel filter is on the passenger side of the car, bolted ot the strut tower, down by the exhaust manifold. You can get filters from Advance Auto or Autozone. Be sure to remove the gas cap, start the car, then pull the fuel pump fuse under the dash, and let the car stall. This should relieve most of the fuel pressure, so you don't spray gas all over the engine, when you remove the filter. The filter should be replaced about every 15,000 miles.

Maybe Wes can hook you up with a CD of the service manual and TSB's.

I bet 90% of all bad MAF's are the result of poor connections. Make sure the connectors are clean.

What about bad injector?

I have 97 Q45 with 106K -- has run flawlessly -- have done all routine recommended maintenance -- oil, filters, plugs, etc. OEM alternator failed May 02 at 63k and was replaced free by dealer with new OEM (apparently there was a recall).

Two weeks ago I began to develop the same miss you describe -- more pronounced in gear than in neutral -- not noticable at speed. Dealer confirmed studder, 95.00 DI Fault Trace to possible clogged Injectors. They cleaned the injectors AND replaced all plugs with OEM for $550.

Ran with no studder for about 1 week and now the studder/miss is back and seemingly worse.

Saw some posts on another site that led me to believe it could be a bad injector. Could a bad injector be "intermittent" (every 10-15 sec at idle)?

Will add BG44k to see if that helps? Thoughts??
