Okay i hope i remember everything here. The car is a 92 240sx. And it has only sat for about 5 to 6 months. The motor is a 95 DE, and only the head and block was used. However, because the valvetrain looked so dirty i put in new Nissan crank and rod bearings, everything was checked with plastigage, and it was all in spec.
I was a moron and when i reinstalled the upper intake manifold, there was still old gasket stuck around where the coolant enters the head. So when i added coolant it was easy to see i had a leak. So the old gasket chunk was removed and the leak was gone.
The battery was too weak yesterday so i primed the oil pump and then i gave it a few cranks. A lot of smoke coming out the tail pipe, but it didnt fire. I let it sit for about 8 minutes, and cranked it and it fired then died. I charged the battery all night and didnt touch it til this morning. It fired up very weakly at first but quickly was running well.
It never stopped smoking, and the smoke didnt smell like fuel, oil or coolant. At first there appeared to be an exhaust leak in the engine compartment too, but it must have been oil on something because it eventually stopped.
I let it idle, giving it rpm occasionally to up the oil pressure, for about ten minutes. The smoking went down considerably, but when you gave it rpms the smoke would come back. I never let it run enough to see if it would entirely go away, because i certainly don't want to do any damage, and i also broke the spade on the thermal transmitter unit, so i have no temp gauge (not til next wednesday)
sorry this getting long, but i just wanted to know if this was common when just starting a motor that hasnt run in years, or is it assmebly lube, or just any suggestion you have to put me at ease
