well i've had my ca18det front clip sittin in my garage for about two or so months now. i haven't really had a chance to work on it between school and work.. and there's the fact that its insanely cold out and i have no means of heating my garage. anyway, my dad got impatient with me one day and got a sawz-all and started cutting the front off the car so we could slide the engine/transmission out as a whole and he didn't notice at the time but he cut right through the harness. a big fat bundle of f'n wires that run just over the radiator section. so i looked at it and it looks like there has to be AT LEAST 50 wires there. now my question is... do i buy a new one or try and solder all the damn wires back together. now the soldering part is no big deal cause i'm an electronic engineer major so i'm quite handy with a soldering iron... but the problem for me is that all the wires don't like completely "unique" from one another. Most do but not all. So has anyone had any experience with a cut harness like this before? is it worth the trouble to solder it back together or should i just make my dad feel so guilty that he'll dish out the cash to buy me another harness. At the moment he thinks its my fault that its cut. I'd buy one myself but i'm broke after buying the clip and other misc. parts for the car. blah... help. this is depressing.

well if its running over the RAD section then most likely he just cut the chassis harness and not the EFi harness, and that harness you wont even need its already in the usdm 240 of yours . non of the CA harness should run over the car up there except where i ran my maf infront of the RAD hidden.

Yeah, like Jon said, if it is indeed the JDM clip's harness that your father cut, then you're okay because you won't be using that harness anyway.

those wires run to 2-3 plugs over by the batterytray. that is where some of the wiring (most actually) is that you have to do.

cool. i was just concerned because it looked like some of the wires in the bundle he cut ran to the mass airflow sensor and some other random stuff.

That's the problem with buying clips, too much extra crap to make you wonder foolishly about;) .

yea, I won't do it again. But I'm kinda glad I did for my first swap. Speaking of...Dee, do you have a CA18DET short block?

I know of guys who have them, but I don't know if they want to sell them. The only thing I can do for you is build you one at least for now. I can get extras, but they are automatics and I'm afraid that my friend will be stuck with the trannies which to me are the better motors as they are not dogged-out like the manuals. All of my AWD engines were automatic units except for one. It was manual and lived a very short life= 3 cracked psitons and one melted (my specialty).:D

I was thinking about building a motor and keep driving my car, but I don't have that kinda dough right now. I've got plenty enough to replace the rings and bearings, but not to buy another motor.
