Hello,

My rb20det engine starts hard if sitting for more than 12hours. Once It gets started It can start really easily afterwards as long as it hasnt been sitting for more than 12hours. Anyone know the cause of this? The carbon evaporative canister was taken out? Would this be the cause?

Could possibly be the battery?? Had this problem in my 88' camaro once and it would have a tough time starting in the mornings. But once it started up and juiced the battery up a bit, it would start up afterwards without a problem.

It cant be the battery. Just bought a brand new battery a couple days ago. It may have something to do with the coolant sensor as its not connected(because water temp gauge doesnt work)...i am not sure though. It cranks over good and strong...hmm

i have the same problem. Your coolent temp sensor for your ECU is in the same place as the one for your gauge, but they are two different sensors. So, your coolent temp should be read by the ecu just fine as long as the right sensor is plugged in. It doesn't have anything to do with your gauge. We were thinking that it could be an injector leak of some kind. i am also having idle problems. I replaced the AAC, and it idles a little better, but sometimes my idle still shoots up to 1700rpm for no apparent reason. I am going to check out the IACV next.

frosted flakes - are you letting the fuel pump prime for a full 2 seconds after you turn the ignition to II before you try to start it?

and hybrid, your IACV could be sticking, its a very common problem on swapped motors because after sitting for years and years in a junkyard the valve inside dosent move freeley, sometimes dosent open right, sometimes dosent close right.

Your problem could also be a compression problem. When it's sits for a long time the oil on the cylender walls slides off and then you may loose some compression making it harder to start. What kinda of weather are you having? Is it below freezing?

Man, I have this EXACT same problem. So does my friend with an S14 SR in his S13 coupe. Anyone have any clues as to wtf is up with these japanese engines and starting?

i have this same problem. i was thinking that it could be the cold start sensor. so the eninge thinks that it is warm when it is really cold, but when it is warm the engine thinks it is warm so then it starts easy.
