Hey everyone, I bought a 1989 Nissan 240sx a while ago for $800 it was wrecked (only bumper and fender damage) and I noticed that the engine gives off a lot of heat, but when I check the dash the needle is in between hot and cold. I'm a first time owner so I don't know if this is normal. Especially since the car was sitting in for a year. I did do a oil change, new spark plugs, and right now we're doing a coolant flush.

We started the flush yesterday and the water in the radiator came out all mud like, it was brown and clear, I'm thinking oil. But we cleaned it and it comes out clear. It didn't go into the engine. When we took off the thermostat, that was all disgusting too.

Anyone help for the engine giving off too much heat?

Continue basic coolant system upgrades, might be worthwhile to check the catalytic converter out too, my '89 was about 60% clogged and on long trips the floorboard would get pretty hot.

As a general rule, engines are hot though, so its probably normal as long as its not overheating.

Its probably fine. Do you still have the clutch fan? It's probably just blowing hot air in your face. I have electric fans in front of my radiator and when the car is up to temp, I cant even stand in front of the car with shorts on.

^ damn, but then again you're talking about a boosted engine right? where as he's N/A. You are talking about heat coming from under the hood or underneath the car right and not fans that are reversed in flow blowing towards the front of the car, . . right?

OP, could be on the edge of overheating as in anything else goes wrong and it might be a problem, clogged cat causing the engine to hold heat, or something I didn't think about earlier, exhaust leaks blowing hot air around in there.

For the most part, every Nissan I've owned, six in all have typically run cooler than any other manufacturer , this could just be really good luck on my part though, . . . and now that I say that I'll probably overheat tonight on the way home.

i'm guna take my car to get it inspected soon, so i'm guessing if it's an exhaust problem then they will tell me. but other than that, i'm thinking it is normal.
