Engine Flush Fluid? Which one to use?

Local lube shop reccommended that I get an engine flush. They wanted to charge me $50 some odd bucks to do this. Now is there a brand that I could buy in the store or online to use to flush my engine? (seafoam come to mind) I have a 97 KA24DE.

Thanks

There are some excellent posts by q45 tech about a flush procedure involving bg quick clean and bg MOA, no negative results up to 300K.I went to a BG shop in town and discovered bg 109, a new product by bg, but I have not done enough research to use it......

Did you ask them why they thought you needed an engine flush? I can tell you. They wanted $50. How many miles are on your engine? How often has the oil been changed and was a good quality oil and filter used? I bet you will end up with more problems than you have now if you have any. Leave well enough alone.

i also bet this post will stir up all kinds of opinions. cure alls, snake oil ect.

I agree with you, a lube shop just wants to sell fluids. Those guys are not mechanics either. You go in there for a $19.00 oil change and a $100.00 bucks later you bought a whole bunch of stuff you didnt plan on.

I work for a shop that sells a sort of engine flush treatment to people along with oil changes, but I don't think it's $50 bucks. It's like a couple dollars more than a regular oil change. Not really sure exactly what it is, but most of the guys that work there are pretty sure that it's mostly kerosene. We just put it in with the old oil and let it run for about 5 min, drain and put in new oil. It's not really a flush, just kind of a cleaner I guess. One of the Techs that I work with said he's been doing that with kerosene to his own cars for most of his life. Just adding a little bit and letting the engine run for a few minutes before draining it. Says it just breaks down some of the crap in the engine, and doing it's never cause him any problems.

bg 109 is it, the new stuff, you can use it with dirty oil before an oil change!!! I know, I know, dirty oil, but this stuff turns carbon into a waterlike substace! If your lifters are ticking and your engine vibrates a little; try it, but use bg MOA in your oil after this amazing stuff is drained. If your car doesnt run better, then go with the quick clean approach as described by q45 tech..... screw the rest of it, bg is the only safe way94 Q 162,000

Its simple, but one can't get bg stuff from just anywhere. Get the following from a BG shop (google "bg find a shop" to find your shop) and get the following:1 can of bg quick clean2 cans of bg MOA50$USDUsing FRESH CLEAN OIL (go buy cheap oil, and filters from wal mart) add a HALF a can of quick clean and one can of bg MOA and follow the directions on the quick clean can(warm car, add QC, run for 10 15 minutes, change oil) and then repeat the foregoing proceduce RIGHT AWAY changing the oil WHILE ITS HOT each time. After the two flushes use your normal filter, oil and additive, but bg moa is some good additive. Why two flushes? Because if your too agressive, you could trash your engine! This flush is awsome! Unlike some other alternatives, there has been NO bad results reported for this flush: I have read some really sad stories about the other stuff (ie seafoam, marvel mystery oil). This flush is for resolving lifter ticking and for cleaning oil passages. A lifter tick can be identified as a a slight tapping that occurs usually when your engine is at a certain temperature. If you have a constant tapping, it might be a rod..

Hi I just came across some posts about BG products. How often do you think BG109 should be used? Also, what about the MOA? I have a 62000 miles car we just bought and we would like to keep the engine in good shape buy doing our best with regular maintenance.

Thank you in advance.

use the 109 every 60k, the MOA with every oil change, especially after a flush (it is mandatory after an engine flush). MOA just raises compression in interference engines, makes em perform better.94q 196k

Wow, thank you for the quick reply. Can I use the 109 myself or do I need to find a shop? Also, is the 109 better than the "BG Quick Clean for Engines"? I am try to learn and so I thought to ask.

Thank you for your help.

DIY read directions on the back of the can. Yes the 109 is better, easier and you can do the flush with dirty oil. No prob at all I get a lot of love from this sight, so I'm givin it back....
