why don't you send your block down to Automotive Machine down here in Fort Worth? They are sloooow, not the best prices, but do a great job... they machined BioSehnsucht's block years ago

There is a place in Manhattan (KS) called Performance Machine that is supposed to do good work. A guy by the name of Jesse Prather, who owns a local performance shop and is a multi-time national SCCA race winner uses them exclusively for all of his block work. It's an hour drive from here, which is annoying, but cheaper than shipping it someplace.

You are authorized to get "gotten" by a crappy machine shop during your tenure as a CA series enthusiast. If you can recall back in the day, I've had my share of garbage machinists as well. I've even charged myself, only to be found guilty of doing dodgy work to my own projects. Everyone gets lazy or complacent (ME) at some point, but when folks entrust in me to build their engines or do their projects, I cross and dot and dot and cross to ensure unparalleled satisfaction. I've built a lot of CA18s for folks all across the country and am still doing it; as it is an honor. Some machinists think they can just do what they do with Ford and Chevy engines, but unfortunately, this one requires some serious attention to detail.

Yea, I think I got the "meh, I'll build it like a SBC and it'll be fine" treatment.

If you are looking for a machine shop, you could try Accurate Machine & Tool here in Huntsville. They do vintage Porsche race cars and parts for the International Space Station.

Two different reputable machinists and builders that harbors that philosophy in which both have failed me; especially on the solid lifter thing. That was a disaster. I considered it as $$$ lost. From rig-up jobs to my blocks to crappy head jobs; been there done that. It's what makes us better at what we do, my brother ;).
