My engine has been running fine but recently it's been dying out on me. When i first start the car, the engine runs fine and idles smooth. It starts at around 1000 rpm and then goes down to about 700 after it warms up. I start driving and it would be fine, but after i drive at low speeds, about 20 mph, and i go to neutral to come to a stop, the rpm drops down to about 300 and then climbs back to 700-800, and back down, and up again, for a while. That's just at low speeds, but at high speeds, around 45 mph, after i shift it to neutral to stop or turn, the engine just completely dies out. Sometimes it would die but then come back to life by itself. When i start it back up, it starts up right away with no problems, but just bogs from 300 rpm and up to 800 rpm and back and forth for a while, then it would start idling smooth again until i start driving, then it dies again. I first thought it was the fuel pump going bad, so i had that replaced and it seemed to fix the problem for about two weeks, but now it's happening again. Im guessing it has something to do with the fuel delivery system? Either that or something with the MAF. Could someone help me and maybe tell me what could be causing this? Thanks alot.

Hey man I had the same problem, my car never died but got real close. I still havent fixed the issue, but I did go through 2 MAFs, putting on the RB maf tommorow. If it works and that issue doesnt happen anymore Ill let you know.

check your plug wires and make sure your distributor is set at the right degree. (my 240 did the same thing and it was the plug wires mixed up and the distributor was off the right degree )

i've had the same problem on both my cars, and ive actually had the problem twice.

now if you must much about EGR problems this sounds like a semi-classic case. the only difference here is that the EGR is not the culprit here.

However, it is on the EGR system, and i know you have a vac leak somewhere. On the egr system there are two components, the main assembly valve itself (the piece bolted to the intake manifold that carries exhaust), and the vacuum mechanism (this is bolted near the egr valve, on the side of the upper intake manifold.)

well there is a larger sized vac tube that runs between both of these EGR components. It runs directly under the vacuum mechanism then makes a 90 degree bend and connects to the EGR valve itself.

Well this 90 degree bend fatigues easily, especially in a 10 year old car. i personally have three that have failed, so i recommend getting a new vac line or eliminating the bend by re arranging components. I believe it has to be a very common problem that most people overlook because its nearly impossible to see this line without unbolting the vacuum mechanism

I agree with the other guy about the EGR probs. Mine was doin the exact same thing once it warmed up it would die out then climb back up and sometimes die completly. Find your egr valve put your fingers under it and push the valve up slightly. I pushed mine up all the way and the car acted just like when it was warmed up. The valve was getting stuck in the up position. It was letting alot of exhuast into the intake when it was down under 2000 rpms. That valve is supposed to be alomst closed when the rpms are low and jump up when the rpms go high. I pulled mine off completly blew some air through it but not too much and cleaned it out the best I could and the car runs fine now. I know evuantly I will need a new one but atleast I know what the problem is when it starts again good luck
