My cousin told me this was a common problem but after some searching I didn't find anything lol. Well my 1989 nissan 240sx with the stock ka24e engine does rev properly. First off it wont idle, Second the engine wont rev past 2,800rpms like it tries to but it just doesn't do it. I've heard MAF, Throttle Position Sensor, and the timing (but just did that) I was wondering what information I could get from you all here. Thank you in advance.

Ok I think I know where the MAFS is now but what can I do with it. I've heard clean it but with what exactly? and is there some way to test it and see if its blown or not?

You'll need a voltage meter to check it. Easiest thing is to make sure everything is plugged in first, then swap parts off another properly running car if you have one available (friends car?).

Hmmmmm. you should take 1 of 2 obvious routes:

1) Buy a Chilton's or buy/dl Factory Service Manual for your car (FSM) - search for it. This will show you where & how to diagnose things.

2) Take it to a trusted mechanic and see what he does...

If you really want to do it yourself...

Locate MAF - next to intake box.

Disconnect the clip holding the connector in (w/ a small flathead screwdriver or tweezers).

Take out the connector.

Get some electrical connector cleaner (from Kragen) or equivalent, clean the connector on both sides.

Let dry out a bit.

Reconnect.

See if that helps - that was the usual problem w/ mine... until my MAF went completely - this is where you need to check w/ a multimeter.

Read through 240sx.org FAQ - it should be in there about the MAF stuff.
