My son has a 1992 240SX (S13) with the KA24DE engine in it and iot runs good. We had the chance to buy anothe basket case engine that ie rebuildable, the block and head are just fine. We don't know the year of the basket case KA24DE engine. I can look down the piston journals and see what looks like little oil squirters, the distibutor/ cam positon goes into the front timing chain cover. We want to rebuild this engine but want to ensure that it is compatible with the 1992 ECU. Please share your thoughts via this site or you can email me at [email protected]

Do you know what the other KA24DE engine came out of? Post some pictures of the unknown engine, that would help immensely.

Well I know that there is the holes in the head for the valve cover which denotes it is a S13 KA24DE. There are markings on the the Japan 11-0 and 30R then there is these markings as part of the casting on the block 53F M2 and then there is a machined tab near the rear of the block that has this info stamped into it KA24 388224W

If the valve cover is an s13 the block is a 240sx especially if the timing cover is the same. 240sx dohc blocks are the same. The heads are different only diff in the heads are the valve cover and cams. If its 98 get rid of it it's a bastard motor. You'll know if the timing chain is a single chain. Pistons and everything else is the same. From oil pan up. S13 valve cover has 3 middle bolts s14 has 2 and an extra smaller size on the back. Also has a pointy corner on the side.

Well I knew it was out of an S13 240SX but was trying to narrow done the years. So the best I can find is this. It has the 30-R on the crank and then cast onto the the Head, Block, Intake is the 53F which denotes that is is very early 94 and definitely 91-93 year groups. It has been interesting finding this info. I am an old 50's -90's small block chevy guy. So now a new learning curve.

Basically if it's a dual cam KA with dual timing chains, you're good. If it does turn out to be an S14 engine, you'll have to use the distributor and intake manifold off of your old KA, but they'll bolt up just the same. Sounds like it'll work just fine from what you've said.

The years don't matter. There is no diff in s13 dual cams. They are all the same. Late 94 and above have diff cams and upper intake. 95+ has a slightly diff looking head but same runners and valves. Welcome to the dark side!!
