Post

hello everyone.

i got my car back from the shop yesterday after getting the oil pressure sensor leak replaced.. (due to oil leak)

however.. the mechanic told/ask me to get my engine CLEANED/DETAILED so they can figure out where the leaks are coming from..
(this is a recently bought i30 over the weekend...)

--------------------------

here is the PRE INSPECTION MECHANIC NOTES:
- oil pressure sensor leak - (already replaced)
- valve cover gasket leaking - (could this be the location of the oil leaking?)
if so.. im probably looking at around $300+ to have both of em replaced.
- and of course.. some basic tune up and timing chain adjustment.

other than that.. all seems to run pretty good!.

---------------------------

1) i got a quote locally for $25.. (engine cleaning)
but i was told that there was no guaranteed that i will find the leak.. and that his engine cleaning is for APPEARANCE ONLY.

2) SEARS... yes.. SEARS.. has engine cleaning for $36.
Product Description

For customers that have extended their oil change intervals beyond the normal recommended timeframe. This is a Non-Solvent based product that helps reduce; sludge, varnish, engine wear and restore engine efficiency. In addition, if you recently purchased a car and are not aware of its prior maintenance history this is a good service to cleanse the engine and start fresh.

3) other places has engine CLEANING upwards of $100!
thats just ridiculous........

------------------------------

is the $100 dollar engine cleaning WORTH IT?

im debating of going to the LOCAL place for $25... (with no guarantee.. but it will be clean appearance wise)

or should i kick back and relax at SEARS?

should i go to the carwash and just SPRAY down the engine?! (this is not ideal.. i dont want to break my baby...)
.. and not to mention mess up the electronics..

what do you guys think?!

I think he is telling you to clean the engine BAY not the inside of the engine (which is what the Sears thing is talking about).

Cover your fuse boxes, battery and alternator with plastic bags...and clean the motor with a hose, some some engine degreaser and a brush

now that makes more sense...(considering that theres oil all over from the valve gasket leak/sensor leak)

i was wondering why he wanted me to clean the engine..

but i guess its the ENGINE BAY.. and it is pretty DIRTY..

thanks for the help.
