Hey guys, I have a question. The guy who had my Z32 before me, had replaced the engine with a JDM motor. Just a NA to NA, nothing fancy. The car had broke its timing belt at 106000 miles. The problem is its time for service. I need to replace the timing belt and some other misc parts. He told me that the engine that was put in the car was from a 1994 model, but he was not sure. I have been reading that there are slight variances between the motors produced from 90-93 and 94-95 and 96. Where would I look on the motor to determine what year my motor was produced?

Thanks in advance guys.

P.S. I searched too, I couldn't find anything conclusive.

From what I can find, there should be an identification number on the block (VIN). The 10th digit should show what year it is. This is the chart that I was able to find:

L = 1990M = 1991N = 1992P = 1993R = 1994S = 1995T = 1996

I'm still trying to find exactly where at on the block its located. I have a few VG's laying around so I'll go double check on one of those.

Alright, I found some more info. The number on the block itself is the serial number. Its on the right (passenger's) side of the block, on the back side. If you get a mirror and a flashlight you should be able to see it.

Now... the problem. I've not found any info on whether or not it would give the production year. I'm still searching around though.
