I just installed my fully rebuilt KA20de into my 1993 240sx, Checked everything over and tried to crank it over without fuel and noticed that it cranked very slowly and drained the power from the headlights, (Not sure if thats normal) but I decided to try and fire it up thinking that maybe its just tight because its rebuilt. but after plugging in the fuel pump, she won't start. Gets good spark however. Ill try some starting fluid tomaro, but just thought i would ask your opinon. Also, the radio dies when the brake is depressed. anyone else ever expirence this?

Radio that dies when you step on the brake pedal equals short in wiring somewhere. Headlights do not have any power in them, they receive current from either the battery or alternator. Engines that crank (turnover) slowly equals bad starter motor or bad or weak battery. In your case since you just built this engine it might be different, were all the appropriate clearances checked on the rod journals, crank, piston rings, etc? Can you turn this engine over by hand using a breaker bar and socket?

Yes the engine has been checked and is all very smooth, it is very easy to turn by hand. That rules out a possible clearence problem. The battery was on a charger so the starter should have been getting enough power, even if it was dead. I assume it is a bad starter, the only thing is that the starter was strong three weeks ago when it was last used on the old engine.

Check your ground straps.

ISUjinx has a point, if you know the starterwas good and the clearances are ok and suddenlly it wont spin it fast, go back to the basics, grounds.

And check that battery even if it has been on a charger.

Well I kinda feel stupid now, I came home tonite, after letting the battery charge all day on a slow charger, and gave it another try and BANG! no problems, turned right over and fired up. Glad to have my baby back in action. Thanks for the support anyways. Now for the break in.

Was goign to say sounds like just battery issue whether it was dead or a loose wire...Be careful with starting fluid because you can crack a piston with it.
