engine cough cruising

Hey all

I just got a 84 720 king cab
It runs well starts straight away but when cruising it misses and herks for a sexond then runs fine again. Happens a few times a drive.

My first guess would be fuel starvation. At some point, the carb is just not getting the right amount of fuel to keep it running properly. Causes could be a mix of things. Could just need a new fuel filter... maybe a new pump... or even might be caused by a faulty relay. Start with those... from those signs, we should be able to help you out further. Welcome!

You could also have a partially blocked fuel line. That's what was wrong with my truck... instead of getting the 1.4 litres every minute, it was getting 1/4 of that and as such it wouldn't do anything over 35mph (58km/h) without the carburetor running out of gas for five to ten seconds. If all else fails, try blowing the fuel line through with an air compressor (Just disconnect it from the fuel tank and carburetor first! )
