Engine Compression Conditons

Although my maf wires arent connecting right, my engine is running (rough, sputtering, but running). Can I perform a compression test with it running rough as it is?

yes. in fact a proper compression check is with all spark plugs removed ( car not running) and the a turn of the key for at least 4-5 seconds. being normally 300-400 rpm. make sure our gas pedal is to the floor.
