engine color

ok i here about the black top vs red top and all that but i have a 93 hatch and it had the engine swaped before i bought it and it has a plain metal top no paint how can i tell what i have and if its from a newer 240 vs a older 240. the car has 1400,000 on it the engine i was told has 85,000 on it.

also while im thinking about it i want to get rid of my breather box and just Put a cone filter on there what do i need?

Looks like a plain old ka24de motor to me. If you want to double check than the stamping on the engine is on the driver side of the engine and is stamped right where engine meets trans. I think he was just saying the engine was swapped with a used one because red top and black tops are turbod jdm engines and you would clearly know what you got.
