Hi all newbie here checking in. Ive got a 97 maxima se and the check engine light came on today. went to autozone and ran a diagnostic. they gave me the following codes:

PO325-knock sensor

P1400-manufacturer auxiliary emissions

now here is the thing...i drove about 30 miles with the positive battery terminal disconnected. the guy at autozone said that could have made the check engine light come on, and it could have messed with the ECU. he reset it and it came on again not 10 miles later. nothing feels wrong with the car at all.

anyone have any advice? know what the deal is?

thank you and glad to be here

hi, you might have a bad connection on the ks harness or a bad sensor - that's easy to check or replace - but i couldn't find anything on the p1400 code in the fsm...

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/maxima/1997

maybe the fsm can be more helpful?

missoula's a cool town for parts just type in 1997 nissan maxima parts and you'll get a bunch of hits.

if you're looking for cheaper used parts http://www.car-part.com - junkyards in the us and can.

performance parts - depends what you're looking for.

nico has a parts section but noting much for max owners.

yo allen i took it to get it fixed where i bought it. they replaced the egr solenoid and not the egr valve or the egr temp sensor.

so they fix it and i drive about 75-100miles and it comes on again, get it diagnosed and i get codes p0400-egr flow malfunction/EGR function.

I talked with a guy and he said it could either be:

A-clogged upB-temp sensor needs to be replacedC-egr valve needs to be replaced

he also said that EGR valves rarely need to be changed.

got any advice? thanks in advance

It's likely the either the tube going from the exhaust manifold to the EGR, or (most likely) the tube going from the EGR to the rear of the intake manifold is clogged.

how do i check that? even in the diagram on the service manual i cant tell where it is, i know where the solenoid is, just not the tubes and valve.

The valve is located below the throttle body. You'll have to remove the tubes to check them. I'd remove the small tube that goes to the rear of the intake manifold first.

My tube (behind the intake manifold/plenum) on my 95 was about75% stopped up when I was cleaning my IACV. Got 161K and itwas the first time cleaned. After cleaning both my idle problemcleared up.
