Can anyone let me know if what I should do or need to do about this code; how severe it may be, is it expensive to fix what I should do...? anything or advice will be sufficient. Below I have put the information I have found on the code.

That code is related to the CVT transmission valve body. Common problem with the trannies on altima coupes. Do you have the 120k transmission warranty?

The warranty has expired as I have 127,000 miles on the car currently. Is there anyway to repair this issue w/out replacing the entire transmission?

Hey folks,
I can't find any info on having success solving the step motor issue associated with this code P1778 and with the 2007-09 Nissan Altima 2.5. I know they have Jatco CVT transmission JE0F10A. Did this thread die out? Are you still dealing with this or how did you resolve it?
I'm dealing with this issue right now and some others associated with this CVT, simultaneously, like the whining bearing.
Glad to know what the code points to: mechanical. So something in the pressure system malfunctioning??? Does everyone know about the in-line CVT fluid filter that receives fluid after it passes through the radiator cooler? Just changed mine. Definitely clogged, and when replaced, transmission now holds (doesn't roll back) on inclines. AND, with the new fluid, the whining is gone (at least in the first 200 miles after flush.)

I had mine changed at 59,950 miles thank god it was under warranty. I left my car there at 12 noon and got it the next day at 5. Could possibly be a costly repair, but all they do is change a valve and clear codes. After that my Cvt drove like a charm
