Im looking to buy an 91 240 and doing a engine swap but im having trouble deciding what to put in it. I was planning on doing sr20 from the beginning but in cali smog is a huge deal and i heard about problems registering a car with an sr. Then i was planning on doing a rb20 but heard a lot of crap talked about it. The ca18 doesnt seem like a good choice to me because of its small size and low power. I dont have over 2k to buy a real nice motor and want to do an easy effective swap. please help

The don't swap, just turbo the KA. JDM tyteness isn't a necessity for all the people who are just now buying a 240.

Only 2K huh? Cheap, easy and powerful dont go together. RB, SR, and CA are all good motors with a ton of potential regardless of what you've heard. As Seva said you can always turbo the KA.

As with any car, the saying "Speed = Money....how fast can you afford to go?" certainly applies with the 240 and motor swaps.

Your suspension is calling you.

welcome aboard mate. Stick around and see how other 240 owners are having fun with their cars without investing alot of money and keeping a relatively stock motor.

there's pro and cons to everything bro.

for example.

ka can be turbo but rebuilding is a recommended option. so to rebuild it and throw a turbo on it will go over the 2k limit. 2.4 liters, yes this bad boy displacement is a bad *** with a turbo setup.

sr is most common and the power it produce is awesome, but the cost will already exceed 2k.

rb20. why? if any 6 cylinder goes in the car, why not a rb25 or rb26 instead. not to mention, a few fabrication here and there will exceed 2k. then again 6 is always better than 4.

ca18, never really looked into it, but i believe this will be the best choice for anyone not looking to spend 2k for a motor.

these are just my opinions.

i agree with J-Spec Tuner. "suspension" build up, love it, enjoy it, and you now have a tune suspension to handle whatever power you're looking for.

thanks i think im gonna kick my money into suspension and chill save up some money and then move on from there with hopefully alot more money. As for the sr swap anyone in cali that knows if itll pass, its a big issue to me cuz i dont want to spend money on it then not being able to register.

Um, actually. It is close to impossible to register a car with any type of engine swap in California if you are going to use it as a daily driver. The only way you could get an engine swap in Cali to work without to much work is to keep it strictly for track use.

For under 2k, I would refresh the suspension and wheel/tire package. Corners are fun son.
