like the title saids, my 92 240sx have a engine check light on and it reads EGR. so... would a bad exhuast gas recirculation cause major problems? or any problems, other than no passing smog check.

I had the same type of problem... Get the check engine code first, it tells you exactly what is wrong with it. Then do some research on that code.

i had the same problem code 32 egr (91 240sx). i thought the egr needs some cleaning but my friend check it out while idling and it was good. he push underneath the egr valve and the engine stumble and died, which meant that the egr valve is good.

while i was on my smog class, we had to do an egr functional test and later found out that the vaccum hose from the backpressure transducer valve (which is next to the egr and kinda looks like circle looking thing) to the egr valve was ruptured. changed it, reset ecu and been running fine. there should be 2 vacuum hose going to the egr, the top has a small one and the middle has this larger vacuum hose which leads to the bottom of the transducer valve (which was the ruptured one)

i know for sure it will give you bad gas mileage with the egr code. reset my ecu and no more CEL

not saying this is why your egr code came up but it gives you an idea on where to look for problems (vacuum lines). hopefully i made sense

it depends on what the malfunction on the egr system, common problem is the exhaust hose below the BPT valve burnt or if the egr port gallery at the intake manifold was partially plugged w/ carbon deposits , it will cause hesitation or slight misfire on acceleration .

Proba asking for alot but can you guys post any pictures of what i should be looking for as far as carbon deposits not sure exactly where to look. I also have code 32 and 34. i tried pushing valve the other day not sure exactly where to push to cause car to idle low or what not i tried no reaction from car so... wanted verification im pushing on the right area of egr valve.

thanks guys,
