What's up M35ers. I own a 2006 M35 with 90K miles on it. I seem to have developed a hyper-active heavy foot and hit 6200 RPM from a standing start at basically every chance I get, plus i move through at least 3, sometimes 4 gears at full throttle.

I have a simple question. How much can an M35 engine take? Is the engine engineered well enough to handle that kind of abuse?

Not sure if that was meant to be joke or if you are seriously "abusing" your car as you claim. Common sense tells the rest of us that it's never a good idea to max revs from every dead stop, so I suppose the easy answer to how much abuse your car will take?
Keep that up and you'll be the very first to find out.

While I may not be quite as heavy on the foot as you, my car is taken to the redline on a daily basis quite a few times, as well as 100+ speeds at least once a week, with highly aggressive cornering and lots of good accelerations. My car has a bit over 140,000 miles on it now and has had no issues other than a wheel bearing go out and a fitting start leaking on the radiator. The Wheel bearing seems to be somewhat common anyway and people who drive easy still get it too, so I don't attribute that to my driving at all. Not a single performance related issue in any way. They don't call this the "bulletproof engine" for nothing. Trans is also rated to about 500 HP since it is a truck transmission :)

I may be doing a little bit of engine work soon to strengthen stuff though. Even with how good this engine is, I don't think it will handle a supercharger and NOS at stock...

There isn't a car in the world that can accept this abuse all the time. Given you have the 3.5 v6 powering such a heavy body If I could present an analogy to ponder; What happens to an amplifier rated at 100W RMS 4Ohms when it's driving speakers rated at 1000W 16Ohms at maximum power output? The amp sizzles and pops. On the other hand it sounds like you couldn't give two :poopy: about your car. Let us know how long it lasts if you wouldn't mind.

I wouldn't be too concerned about it. I think the most important thing is that the oil is warmed up properly when you do this. If you're using the proper grade of oil and the engine is at full temp when doing this, I don't think there's an issue.. The V6's are pretty strong. In reality, I'd be more concerned about the abuse you're putting on the transmission than anything related to the internals of the engine.

It looks like there are two camps. I guess I'll have to find out the hard way..

Based on the people I know with the V6 in the 350Z and G35, those things can take some serious abuse without much issue. It doesn't get too much more difficult than track duty, and I know plenty of people that have mostly all track miles on their cars and they never skip a beat.

Well I have done the things I said in my last post for the past 6 years/70,000 miles without "taking it easy" as a driver at all. The car is still in perfect shape in all aspects. elwesso is right, these are the same engines in G35's and 350z's and people twin turbo those cars and do some serious punishment to them and the engine is still good to go. I have kept up on all my maintenance which is probably why my car doesnt mind in the slightest.

sounds like this might be your "first" luxury/performance car so you're excited to hit the pedal - not mad at you for that...I'd be more concerned about the abuse you're putting on your brakes.....going fast is one thing, not being able to STOP is another... :ohno:

enjoy your M :bigthumb:

It is my first and I am really enjoying it so far haha. Where did you get your front grill? That is nice looking. There is a place in Houston that does carbon-fiber wrap. My car is pearl white so the offset would look awesome. Is it easy to install the grill?

One aspect that I was thinking about is the compression ratio of the piston chambers is 10.3 to 1. That's fairly high for a V6 engine. Some Porsches also share the same compression ratio. What does that ratio translate to in terms of the strength of the engine block? Is there a conversion equation out there that tells you?

The transmission, from what I understand, is a similar transmission that comes out of the Nissan Pathfinder/Titan. Those are pretty large vehicles that move much greater weight, so I am not too concerned about that, unless there is something I don't know about.

Congrats on your M!! there's a lot of guys here on the forum with a lot of knowledge and expertise with the M...

My front grille is from the 08 M sport package front bumper...I did the front bumper swap about a year or 2yrs ago - damn I can't believe it's been that long....it gives my car a new look...I had it done professionally here in Southern Cali....I posted a thread some time ago when I did the front bumper and grille conversion... :dblthumb:
