I did not know that you needed to break in the engine in the book it said not to use cruise and i did also only went into high rpms a few times @ 4500 did any of this effect my future mpg. If i smart at light turn the ac on two then recirculate the air i get 32-33 in the city if when my mom drives it it only gets 27 i was wondering if cranking the ac on to 4 right when you get in could effect it that much. Also does anyone know the sweet spot on the engine to get the most mpg also the optima tire pressuress to. Another question is on the throuttle body should i get it cleaned every 30K it is expensive something like 75 to do. Also about the air condition filter i thought i would wait till 20K. On performance would a cold air intake help the power and not effect mpg with a k&n air filter be a good combonation Lastly I have that fuel pump problem it acted up 2 and a weeks ago and was fine then did it yesterday planning on taking it to dealer tommorw, also how do you know you have abs i through away my invoice it has a abs light on the dash

any help on these questions would help

Having an ABS light doesn't necessarily mean you have ABS, since all of the clusters are the same. Also, unlike a lot of cars, the ABS light does NOT turn on when you first turn on the car even if you DO have ABS. The easiest way is to find the ABS controller, but I haven't been able to find it in my car (which I know for a fact has ABS) so it's well hidden.

As for break-in, your A/C will not affect anything. A CAI is not going to have any positive effect on MPG, but rather the tendancy to romp on the gas more when you have one has an adverse effect. A few trips to 4500 shouldn't be too bad, and cruise... well, hard to say. Supposedly newer engines don't need as rigorous of a break-in as older engines.

Testing for ABS. Find any road without any cars. Accelerate to about 20mph. Stomp on the brakes. If the tires lock up and there's some tire smoke... no abs. If the pedal makes a pulsating feel and the car stops nice and smooth... you got it.

You can also look under the hood. The ABS module will usually be a big block of aluminum with multiple brake lines going to and from it.

For mileage... bad news, it's not a Civic or Corolla, it's a bigger heavier car, that catches a lot of wind, with a modular and economical drivetrain optimized for European use not american freeways. It's not bad, but it's uncommon ot get mid 30's as some people expect.

My take on this is that it doesn't matter what you've got the fan set to. Once the A/C is on, the compressor is on, and that's what affects your mileage, not the fan speed. In fact, if you had the fan on higher it might cool off the car faster and you could turn off the A/C sooner, so it might even be better!

Additionally, I've noticed that the temperature doesn't matter either, it's going to pump out max cold air regardless, anything warmer is offset by passing the cold air through a heater. Even with the AC off, having it set to maybe a third of the way towards heat, the air comes out slightly warmed.

I may be wrong, but that's one of my observations.

THE PRESSURE IN THE TIRES IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE WEIGHT LOAD ON THEM. I always have about 4 lbs more in the front if the car is empty. 28 rear & 32 front is generally what I run.
