When I first bought my 09 SLW AWD Rogue, I was initially disappointed with the fuel economy. Even after 15,000 km it wasn't great. Once I hit 18,000 km it improved somewhat. Now I 26,000 km on the Rogue equipped with a set of Michelin Hydroedge tires, which are Consumer Report's #1 rated tire for efficiency and gas mileage. According to the trip computer, fuel economy has gone from 11.7L/100km to 11.1L/100km (mixed driving). I started using the Road Trip app on my iPhone to better track fuel economy.

Has anyone experienced an increase in mileage after a certain amount of kms?

Hi there,

I have kept close track of my eficiency for the past 2 years since purchasing my 08 FWD, and even though I've heard many people claim that mileage increases after extended break-in period I have not noticed an increase.

I would recommend calculating the mileage manually, don't use the capacity of the fuel tank but rather the exact volume that you put in when filling up. I have 35,000 km and I average around 9.0 L/100km in mixed driving, and I have gotten close to 7.0 with conservative highway driving in summer.

I find this vehicle's efficiency is highly dependant on driving style, if you are hard on the gas the CVT seems to choose a very low gear resulting in high rpms for extended periods. I find the opposite is true if you consistently drive with a light foot, the CVT will kick into high gear very early, usually by the time I hit 20 km/hr accelerating from a stand still the CVT has already selected the very high gear ratio and the rpms plunge to around 1200 where they stay all the way up to 50-60 kph. Also, there is a huge difference in highway mileage between say 100 kph and 130 kph.

I will be making the calculations with my iPhone over the next few months. I should report that it took nearly about 48L to fill after reaching 505km, for about 9.56/100km. I was very pleased. The trip consisted of a drive from outside Montreal to New Brunswick border, with highway and backroad speeds. Several starts and stops too, thanks to all of the construction and a couple of accidents.

Initially, my Rogue would yield me 21 MPG in the city, but now, after ~13,000 km, I average about 23. Now, that could be contributed to a different daily driving route this summer than the last two, but the route is fairly similar. I haven't done any good highway trips in the past year though, so I can't comment as to highway fuel efficiency.

I'm also hoping for increased mileage after the break in period. My Rogue is at 1,200 miles and consistently gets 22 mpg on regular 87 octane gas, mix of highway and city traffic.

That being said, the Rogue mileage is still much better than my Murano - which needed premium fuel and was lucky to get 19 mpg.

P.S. I wish I knew what the conversion rates are so that I know what you guys are talking about (outside of USA)

Here is a simple one to remember

Divide 235 by the fuel economy number;

235/10 l/100km = 23.5 US mpg
235/23.5 US mpg = 10 l/100km

If you want to use the 'Queen's' Imperial Gallon, use 282 instead.

Or just type, "xxxxx miles to km" (or vice versa) in Google and it'll tell you. (same basic format for any unit conversion) <3 Google.
