Engine Bogging

95 Nissan 240 SX SE. 5spd. I think it has VLSD but after my last few races i have come to question whether it really has ABS and VLSD. I race the car about once a weekend.

Problem: Every time i give the gas more then 10% throttle, the motor just bogs and revs very slowly. i could floor it and the tach barely moves. at first i thought it might need a tune up so i changed the fuel filter and replaced the spark plugs with NGK IX Iridiums gaped to .04. This did not solve the problem and now i am stumped.

Recent car work: Besides the Fuel filter and plugs i replaced about a week ago, i also added a cat-back exhaust with 80mm piping (HKS Hi Power), and replaced the Reverse Switch that was faulty. I also added an Ebay Intake that had to be jerry rigged to the Intake manifold. The pipe was smaller then the coupling so i expanded the pipe diamiter with electrical tape. I also added a B&M short shifter.

Type of Racing: I do a mix of both Autocross and Drift. Almost every weekend sence the start of May. I change my oil after 3000mi or every three races...whichever comes first. my fuel gauge broke about two weeks ago from drift...but i was expecting that.

that intake sounds suspicous. try spraying your whole intake system with carb cleaner while the engine is running and look for the rpms to change.

Hey i also have a problem like that but on my 90 240sx 2.4 sohc. I also put a cob job filter off ebay on it and it was a lot of my bog problem. I still have the slight bog and i have been racking my brain trying to fing the problem. If any one has an answer please let ous know. If i find the problem i will post. Thanks Mighty mike

hum...i still have the stock intake so maybe ill try putting that back on and seeing if it helps.
