I straight pipe my car from the cat, and im gettin some bad effects, my engine is bogging down (like its almost not firing right or somethin) when I start going but it smoothes out pretty good at higher rpm's/mph. What should i check or do to fix this? (check distributor, fuel injectors?) i have no idea what this is. please help

your problem is probably a lack of backpressure.our cars like to have a little bit of restriction, so a highflow cat without a muffler can cause these symptoms.

if it's actually backfiring that might be it, but if it's misfiring it's probably your fuel mixture. that could be any number of things; MAFS/connections, coolant temp sensor/connections, possibly even the O2 sensor setup.

definitely check out other things before you start replacing expensive parts.

If this is on a swap... CHECK YOUR WIRING. My friend's SR20 had the same problem. It was a few wires crossing each other.

bad missfires, sputter, backfires and violently shaking motor

that is exactly what is happening to my car, violently shaking at 1,000-1,500 rpm's and the other things

if your problem happens during idle also, try restricting the muffler a bit by putting your foot on it and creating a little back pressure. see if it smooths out any

thats the best idea i got. sad isnt it?

I'm having similar problems.. Seemed to come up a short while after installing my injen CAI and i haven't resolved it yet. My gas mileage has dropped about 100 miles per tank, idle rough as hell, and running rich ( i guess ) nearly choke on the exhaust and its coming in the car and whoo! nearly get high going to work. Best I can describe it.. its a mix of like the smell found when shooting rifles, fireworks, gas vapor, and regular exhuast (i've been working on that description for a week or two)
