I have a 2006 G35 Sedan AT. Around 57,000 miles. In the last week or so I notice after a few miles of driving a sort of whining comes from the drives side of my engine bay. If i shut off the car and turn it back on, it stops. The whining is noticeable at any speed and idling at lights or in park. Any ideas? Thanks :D

I honestly don't knw much aboout the VQ's but have you check ed the tension on yoru belts? might be time to tighten or replace the accesorry belts, and it could also be an ideler bearings, or even the alternatopr, ps pumps etc

I opened the hood and it sounds like its coming from the belt. But, my dad said it could be the alternator. Why would it be acting up? I have no starting problems and if so, this should be covered under warranty correct?

its not your alternator, its the belts. Just tighten it up. You need to loosen the nut on the idler pulley then 1/4 or 1/2 turn will probably make the squealing stop.

If the belts are cracked you should just replace them. Not expensive...but probably good enough to just tighten the belts at 57K miles.

Thanks man, That is good to hear. I'm having my oil changed Wednesday, do you think the infiniti dealer would charge just to tighten it up?

they will charge you for sure. LOL

if you do it yourself it will only take you like 5 min. Mostly just the time it takes to jack the car up. If you live in Las Vegas you can stop by and I'll help you out. haha
