While I'm waiting on parts and the engines out I decided to clean up the engine bay a little. I've got a few little rust spots that I'm going to be taking care of and did a little stitch welding for extra strength. What I'd really like to do is cut the corner off the bottom of the transmission tunnel to make the new trans fit a little better and maybe even be able to pull the transmission without taking out the motor. I've seen pictures of someone who did it but, I can't find them. If anybody has those pictures or a link that would be awesome.

some stitch welding

prep work so far

I want to cut out the beat in parts and replace with flat sheet metal

Nice stitching. To cover up my welds and give the bay a clean look I used JB weld like body filler. It sands very well and looks like its all one piece of steel when you paint it..

Just about finished up with this. Used JB weld like suggested but, more to hide the gusset I put in to strengthen were the intercooler piping goes.

What did you use to remove the sealer nissan uses in between the joints. That stuff is hard as nails. Looks good by the way.

Duplicolor low gloss black engine paint rattle can. I tried the 1200* stuff first but, it came out very chalky. So, I ended up with the 500* engine paint. I used one of the clip on spray trigger. It made it a lot easier for me to control.

I used a wood chisel to scrape most of it away and a wire cup grinding wheel for the rest.

Just posting a pic of what the JB weld looks like when it's used like body filler on the strut tower. Also to take the NISSAN glue I just used a flat razor. This pic was taken for my coil/timing cover build but it caught the strut tower in one of them.
