I was looking on my desk top this afternoon, checking out some old pics that I had saved of 240sx engine bays. I found a few that had the usual humps added were the wheel tubs are. Seen a few pics of people seem welding the cracks and what not. Also seen some engine bays where people where filling in all those holes that the 240's have everywhere. But one in particular that caught my eye was a bay that had sheet metal layed in a few places and the guy smeared some black looking tar all over it. I was wondering what that black tar/ window seal looking stuff was and how to go about doing it. I to would also like to see some photos of different engine bays with the fabrication thing going on. Would like to start a new winter project :-)

Seeing the actual picture would be helpful.
Could it have been some sort of seam sealant?

Stitch welding helps with flexation and stiffening up. Filling holes may be preference. Typically what you see is tubs which can make an engine bay look super clean IMO. As far as sealant probably POR15 or a bedliner

3M also makes a seam sealant that lays down like caulk. Some people use it to give the seam welds a factory look. I plan on stitch welding and then recovering with a seam sealer.

As for filling in the holes, it's a personal preference. I personally think it tidies the engine bay up.
