ENGINE BADGE?

So I go to change my oil this week, and lo and behold, the damn Nissan emblem is gone from my valve cover! {Nissan calls it "engine ornament") I always thought these were attached semi-permanently with double-sided tape. NOT. Looks like there are slots which insert into the plastic cover.

Bewildered as to how this possibly comes off in the first place, I looked throughout the entire engine compartment with a flashlight to see if it had slipped down somewhere...NOTHING!

So, skeptic of human nature that I am, I'm afraid I'm left to believe that someone needed one (lowest price Ive seen is $48) and propped my hood up to quickly snatch it off, yet thankfully leaving my chrome Nismo valve and radiator caps...
