I seriously want to swap a RB20DET into my car, but I won't have the funds to do it for a long long time...

What do you guys think about the availabilty of JDM engines in the upcoming years? They are getting extremely popular, and more people are buying them than ever before. I'm worried about them becoming a rare thing, and having the price jacked up to something I cannot afford.

Thoughts?

the prices have already been on a steady incline. its just going to get worse when more people jump off of the honda bandwagon because they finally figure out fwd sucks.

I guess we have to wait for someone who actually goes down to junkyards in Japan and sees what is available to get a real answer. But yeah, I'd think prices are just going to go up and up as demand rises and availability falls. It's not like they are still making most of these engines..

Dont worry about it. Just remember that there are alot better cars out there than just the silvia and 180sx. And if you cant have one now, rebuilding old ones is not going to be hard in the future as the part market for sr's and ca's grows larger.

The sports car market is vanishing, and I don't see anything even remotely close to the slivia being produced in the near future. Oh well...

The SR supply is starting to get tapped. But the RB20 isnt such a popular swap yet.I'd be real surprised if you couldnt pick on up in 2 years still, w/o too much problems, even though their popularity is clearly on the rise.

On the other hand, In 2 years it will be increasingly difficult to pick up a decent SR for a decent price. These supply effects have already been felt by our membership in the last year I think. The situation wont improve and in 2 years it will be a rare find to get a good SR for a good price.

Ironically even though the CA's are older and out of production for years now, they havent been played as much and decent supplies still seem to exist.

On the flipside , its also now becoming increasingly easy, to find decent pre-swapped used 240's for sale. And while there is obviosly a huge premium over a non swapped one, but for folks like me who just can't commit the time to chasing down clips and parts it is a viable choice.

As SR supplies dwindle in next few years, the KA-T route will gain even more popularity and few (if any) clubs have the KA-T depth we do.

Fred..:)

PS:Also I feel, perhaps in 6-10 years many used G35 Coupes will start showing up in the Nissan Enthusiast Coupe community replacing the top spot now held by S14.5 and S15.

Thats enough use of the word "rice". The 240 is not an easy dish to take with rice. How many cars do you know out there that have the asthetic quality of a fast car and the ability to be a champion at the same time? Not many, and we all fit into that niche. at least i have seen that this car has the proud ownership of people who have good taste and a lead foot...

The limited supply of 240s will keep the amount on the road rather low (duh, lol)

Civics are being produced as fast as possible, and I see so many around here. Civics, Accords, and Mustangs populate my area, its quite sad...

I have been looking into the KA-t abit more. It doesn't seem like a bad route at all. 225hp at 6psi is rather nice :rockon

I still have plenty of time to decide (I'm only 16 with no job :help )
