I came accross a motor and auto transmission for my daughters 1992 240sx. To remove the old tired motor and slipping transmission, is it easer to pull them out of the engine compartment together or pull the motor out the top and drop the transmission out the bottom?

the motor and transmission are from a 1994, will this be an issue with the ECU and harnesses?

And while I have the drive train out are there any things I should look at or replace that would otherwise be a pin to get to....

it should be easier to lift the engine with the transmission still attached. just make sure you pull it at an angle so the transmission clears the firewall. be careful around the power steering lines as the transmission can damage them as you're pulling it out. its a good idea to get a friend to keep the transmission out of the way while you raise the engine.

as far as i know, there should be no problems with using a '94 ecu and wiring harnesses. as long as its from an auto as well, there should be no modification.

as far as checking the transmission, im not too sure. i dont know much about automatic transmissions, ive never owned one or even really worked on one. all my friends drive sticks too. i guess you could start with draining the fluid if there is any in it. check the rear main seal and all the external linkages.

remove both together. its way easier. if you swap the manifolds and everything, i think your 92 ecm and harness will work just fine with the 94 long block and trans.

Should be fine. I think the manual transmission and the auto transmission are the same size, someone confirm?

Right back at you.

But either way, you should be able to pull it straight out with the engine. Just watch it to make sure you don't hit anything on the way out.
