93 s13, completely stock KA, 115k

Has been running perfectly up until tonight. I was doing some city driving(nothing hard at all, taking it easy), when I came to a stoplight and it started to idle like crap. Dropped to 500rpm and shook the car, sounded "lumpy", kinda like it was mis-firing, or a cylinder wasnt firing at all. Limped it home, anytime I tried to accelerate i could hear it put-put-put'ing away, really sounded off, and acceleration was definitly not as smooth or powerful as it was.

Just changed the oil 2 days ago, plugs are fine as of 2 days ago. Any suggestions what to check? I need to make a 130 mile drive tomorrow... not good!

Thanks

Dan

Are the plug wires good too? Make sure they are all on the distributor nice and snug, one of mine fell off and that happened to me.

Have you checked the AIV? It's been covered on NICO a lot, search for AIV and you will find all about it. Basically, if it's clogged it will cause a rough idle. If that's the cause, remove it or clean it, your choice.

Try turning the AC on. Mine idles about 300-400 RPMs higher with it on, that might keep you from stalling or bogging down real low. 500 doesn't sound that bad though, mine usually idles around 650-700.

Just a quick idea, check the plug going to your mass air meter. My brother replaced my filter 2 weeks ago while I changed rear brakes. When we got in the car, it ran like monkeyass and would barely idle. It never got over 2800 rpm. I plugged the harness back up that my happy retard brother left off and it ran great.

A compression test will reveal if the problems lies with ignition or fuel delivery rather then engine internals,

Update:

I have changed the plugs, plug wires and fuel filter. I cleaned the distributor cap and rotor. I checked all plugs in the engine bay, all were connected.

After doing all that, the only thing I can say that made any difference... is the fuel filter. It seemed to calm the idle a bit, but it still has no power in acceleration, the torque is non-existant.

Leads me to believe it could be the fuel pump or injectors?

Also, when I pulled plug wires, the back 3 were covered(about an inch up) in what appeared to be rust... Looking down into the spark plug hole, there is rust on the walls. What could that signify?

Thanks
