Hey I own a '93 S13 Coupe and I just put in a AEM short ram intake and now im having trouble with the engine while it idles. while it idles at a stop sign or something the RPMs start jumping between 1000 and 0 RPMs and then most times the engine dies. I bought a new MAF to see if that was the problem but it still does the same thing and its starting to eritat me. I was thinking that I need to re-program my ECU or tune it with the intake but I dont know and does any one know if I need that little black box that connects to the MAF adaptor? SO can someone please help me out?

This is what I would do.

1. Not wasted my money on a stupid intake. (IMO, rice.)

2. Put the stock air filter back on and see if that works.

3. Make 10 good posts and put that AEM short a** rammer in the classifieds.

check ALL of your vacuum hoses coming from the intake, there is one on the bottom of the intake mani that connects to your AIV (auxillary air intake valve), it may be cracked, disconnected, or you may need to replace the valve, but thats what it sounds like to me.

and no you absoutely do NOT need to retune your car for an intake, your not really changing anything, other than maybe a more straight line to the TB, i think flow stays near the same.....oh and the sound

check for leaks and make sure all of your wires to you mafs is intact. did you make sure you have no open nipples on your pipe most of them come with a crank case vent return. there is no way that ur car would need re-tuned from changing a plastic pipe to an aluminum. many people have done this with no probs. im not saying ur an idiot. dont take it like that. but its pretty simple

Dude, weren't you just asking how to "smooth out metal" not too long ago? LOL, I laugh at any advice you give people. Like the others said, check vac. leaks and check wires. I read your problem before but beer won't let me remember it exactly. Like I said before though, just junk that piece of s***, "aftermarket intakes" are worthless.
