Replacing my SOHC head gasket and I've got a question in what to do chronologically in terms of finding TDC.
As I understand it now the first thing to do in finding TDC is to stick a screwdriver in spark plug hole one and wait for it to rise to its highest point.
Then is to look at the crank pully and make sure the marker lines up to second furthest mark on the left.
*If it is not, I manually turn the pully until it does line up with the mark??**
Then open up the Dizzy and make sure it is pointing to the down and right.
*If it is I am then at top dead center? and If not what do I do?

okay my advice is to put the #1 piston at top dead center before you put the head on. keep in mind it is 2 rotations to the cams 1. so the crank key needs to be facing up when the piston is top dead center. the screwdriver method can be difficult due to the angle of the spark plug holes. this is mechanical tdc and your timing marks will be set to stock marks. your dizzy will point to spark plug 1 which is down and right. I recommend getting a chilton manual they are 20 bucks or download the fsm on here. anymore help just let me know

How's about using the marks on the crank and checking the position of the distributor rotor to set TDC. The rotor should e pointing to 5 o'clock when set at TDC.
