Hey guys - I just picked up a 99 QX4, US California model. I bought it specifically because I am moving to Calgary, and anticipate skiing about every weekend and wanted a decent 4x4 to trudge through the snow. Love the truck so far, it is incredibly smooth. I will post up picks soon. It is in near mint shape, leather, 95k miles, new Michelin, and all service UTD done at infinity. Only thing I'm not looking forward to is the 18 MPG.

So one of the requirements to register the QX4 in Canada is that I need daytime running lights. I searched the forum a bit, and every thread is either on how picky the electrical is, or how to disable the running lights on Canadian models. Does anyone have any insight, links, or anything into taking care of this cheaply and efficiently?

Thanks.

I think you would require the DRL modules to begin with, but other than that I have no idea regarding possible wiring differences or other necessary things. Perhaps look at the FSM's wiring diagram for more details.

I'd make my own with the led strip lights

Well if you leave the headlight switch in the ON position all the time, the lights will essentially be like daytime running lights (since they turn off when you turn off the car). If you REALLY need daytime running lights that aren't activated by a switch, you could probably take the headlight switch/stalk apart and just put two wires together - voila!

When I had a low-beam-not-working problem last year, I got to know the circuitry of the headlight system quite well.
The problem turned out to be a faulty DRL module. (I picked one up from a wrecker for $25. Fixed the problem).
All this to say that activating DRL's on a U.S. vehicle is more complicated than just installing a DRL module.
The circuitry is different, and I doubt very much that there are any wiring harnesses hanging off the inside of the wheel well (under the hood) where the module would go.
Just for the heck of it, have a look anyway, but I doubt that there's anything there.
Wiring up your own lights would be a lot simpler, like zack7685 says.
