Were installing an EMS Stinger 4424 on my friends CA. He decided to ditch his F-con and GCC for it. Too many tuning problems at the level the engine is at now. Plus... MAF sensors suck. We'll let you guys know how the process is going. If your interested... http://www.enginemanagement.com.au/ And BTW, the reason for going with this and not sds or something similar was because of the cost (he got a good deal), and the difficulty level (its quite a bit harder to set up and we wanted the challenge). Deffinitly would not recomend to someone who has never had a standalone before! So dont go getting excited and think that you can just install this unit in your back yard, unless you have access to a professional auto technician, a scope, a dyno, and have one hell of a knowledge of how each and every sensor on the vehicle works. But anyways, we'll hopefully post some pics of the process.

Doesn't look too bad or too difficult to use. Either way looks like a nice ecu.

yea after reading it looks exactly like Megasquirt, just like megasquirt it uses motorola processor, onboard MAP sensor. It has all the same features. The only difference is probably that Megasquirt offers more Input Output, Open source. Which sensors does it use or do you get to use whatever sensors you want as long as you know the resistance values?

We're utilizing all the stock sensors except the maf of course. In fact, we're wiring it up to the stock harness where the ecu plugs in. The hardest part so far has been deciding how to wire up the crank angle sensor. But we got it figured out relatively easy. All wiring should be done, at the latest, tuesday. Then it's a matter of loading the base map and getting it on the dyno. Crappiest part though was the o2 sensor. They, "EMS", kept saying to use a wideband o2. Yet, its not set up for a wideband 02. Just a 4 wire (2 non-polar heater wires, 1 ground, and one signal). They gave a Bosch part #, so I price checked it... and $325 dollars later, I decided to check out other alternatives. Come to find out, with Bosch at least(I called 3 different Bosch techs)... all 4 wire 02 sensors are the SAME!(As far as their basic design goes). They all read a 0-1v reference. The only differences are different style tips, and different outer core construction. Some are made to handle more or less vibration, heat, and abuse. So we're going with the Bosch universal 4 wire... much, much, much cheaper.

check out this page http://www.megamanual.com/PWC/lsupur.htm

nice info on O2 sensors especially cheap Widebands.

What needs to be setup to get Wideband to work.

just for reference I'm sure your aware a 0-1V signal means its Narrowband and a 0-5V signal is wideband.

EMS is a popular choice down under, especially on boosted 1.6L toyota 4AG.Some EMS dealer on turboford offered the basic EMS for a decent price of $750usd. Laptop tuned and datalogging I believe. The fancier 8860 with auto-tune etc was $950.

Other 'low budget' basic systems of interest;efihardware Hawk EC21 imported by some starion owners ~$780us034efi.com popular with the VW set ~$900Holley 950 commander ~$750usd without loom

Alright... all wired in and no major problems. Hardest part was utilizing the stock crank angle sensor. But we figured it out and it works fantastic. Fired up like a champ. Actually. it's running better than it ever has before! She's going on the dyno tomorrow morning. I'll be sure to let you guys know how everything went. Also, my classmate is bringing his camera, so I'll get some movies up for ya.
