Hi, Im fairly new to the Z community and don't have many people in my area that i can leach off of for information. I'm looking to get a new ecu so i can get a tune and run bigger injectors. I've heard of Z1's ecu thing but my whole question is, what is the difference between an ecu and an ems..... i apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge but I'm hopping someone can help and correct me if I'm mistaken. I have someone in my area selling a an ecu for my Z but the box says "Programming Engine Management System" in the picture that they posted... it's Aem btw. Now lets just say in the future i wanted an E85 tune, would i be able to tune the ems??? Again, sorry if i sound flat out dumb but I'm just looking for some help, and if your going to come here and be an A##ho## then i rather not hear it.
Thank from Sid :) :bigthumb:

ECU= stock computer with a reprogrammed chip(eprom); you need your ecu socketed so you can install/change out the eprom. Purchase chips with specific tune parameters and replace. Can not be changed on the fly.

EMS=aftermarket computer(replaces the whole ECU) AEM, Haltec etc; tunnable on the fly with lap top and software, many more options. Cons; need experience to tune the EMS, may need to install additional sensors, more $$$

Personally I'd stay with the EMS and make that work as despite higher costs, it will result in a better operating car in my experience as the RB ECU/Apexi stuff used for my upgrade just doesn't give the tunable control of things I personally want, especially with cold idle and general throttle response. The EMS can be tuned to control everything while the others just control fuel/air, and ride along with the OEM ECU with the rest plus you have to go with a new RB or other suitable ECU anyway in most cases.
