Well my stupid f'in county got a bunch of green peace lovin mofo's up here now so after 10 years of never having to worry about emissions I just got the horrible news in the mail.... E Test REQUIRED

FML :tisk:

So I need all the input I can get. Obviously 1st things first, my car is 3 inch straight piped test piped and no 02 sensors are hooked up. My tacho speedo and odo DO NOT work. So just laying that out there. So for me to pass what do I need to do? (also I thought about fudging it through a local shop but guess what the b@$$sterds said GOVERNMENT only facility!!!!) Obviously I need to get a cat and 02 sensors. Should I put the silencers in or leave them out? I know engine swaps are illegal so yeaaaaaay:D I am not electronically savvy so I know I need a new speed sensor, and what else????
I am retarded, not to mention I have no idea if it will even work with the stock cluster....... So at this point I am really worried...... Not to mention what the price is going to be to get me up to par. Any suggestions? Or am I sol and just sell the car which is not really an option I even want to consider. But being that I don't have a G$ around to get it to passsssss..... Any ideas suggestions info very much appreciated...... :gotme :dblthumb:

Flange-up your exhaust system to accept a pre-made catalytic converter set-up. Any vaccum leaks will need to be sealed before going through the emissions test. Timing is set at 15 deg BTDC, so you will advance timing to 17 deg BTDC, make sure your semi-restrictive air cleaner is off and the turbo is sucking clean air and lastly, touch basis with us or me before you go through with the testing. The CA can pass, but you will have to take heed to what's being told to you or you will get hustled by some scrub outside of the emissions testing facility telling you he/she can get your car to pass. It's all about making money and to some, there's no limit on the ways to do it.

Thanks Dee, any suggestions on what brand of cat to go with? (or will any do?) I will def make sure to tighten everything up. One of the things I'm a little worried about is because of the maf I'm using the engine is running rich, I have an adjustable Sard FPR but nothing to tune with any suggestions? I will make sure I adjust the timing, should I get some new spark plugs too? A friend of mine told me to disconnect one of the injectors, but I fail to see how a 3 cyclinder ca is going to pass the e-test so I just wrote that idea off. I have a aem dry filter leading to the turbos intake so not sure if that's what you mean? Someone told me to add some octane boost and take it on the highway before I take it in? And should I leave the silencers in or out? I have to think in might be a better benefit, or maybe not maybe because there's more room for the exhaust gases to escape it might be better for the sniffer test to leave them out? I did hear it's all about who you get there, apparently my friend has a POS 88 Ford 5.0 with out cats and straight piped they just left the sniffer waaaay far back just check for smoke or a check engine light and then passed it!?
So idk I know bare minimum I need to get a cat, need to get my speedo odo and tacho working, use all the details you've given me thus far, and then if it doesn't pass I need to get a bill stating that it would cost me for then 750$ to bring it into compliance and then I might be able to get a waiver..... Sooooo yeah fun times :bigthumb:

Mine passed cleaner (in Dallas, Texas) than the KA ever did, on 450cc injectors no less. Though, that was after having spent years chasing down vacuum leaks and ECU tuning issues and so forth. Make sure your ECU is programmed for the MAF you use, and injectors, EXACTLY. I.e. don't fall into the KA-E MAF on a stock CA ECU trap. Make sure the O2 is hooked up and you have a fresh cat. Most probably you'll be fine with any intake you have on it, really, unless they do visual inspections (in which case you may be boned from the get go). If the intake makes a difference on the test then you were dangerously close to failing already.

You might consider running some GM Top Engine Cleaner or Seafoam through it (and then changing the oil) to clean out any gunk. Replace sparkplugs, depending on their condition. Make sure the water temp sensor is good, replace if necessary. You mentioned a speed sensor, does your speedo not work?

Another option is simply to get a stock engine + wiring, etc, and swap it back to stop to inspect it, then swap it all again...

edit: somehow I didn't see your reply to boost_boy.

Forget octane booster. Silencers won't change anything unless a lack of exhaust velocity is affecting combustion due to inadequate scavenging of the cylinders, but that far down the exhaust path probably won't matter.

You definately need to get / borrow a fuel pressure gauge and adjust the FPR. Jumper the fuel pump relay to stay on (otherwise ECU turns it off when engine off after a few seconds) and turn key to run (but not start), then you can adjust it to your heart's content. Adjust to 36.3psi while the engine is off.

If you have the wrong MAF for the ECU mapping you're going to have trouble getting it to pass but depending on how tight the requirements are it might still eek by.

Wow thanks for the info, looks like my works going to be cut out for me... Thanks for the info man that is a lot of good info, I just wonder what's it going to cost me in the end. However I may have found a solution, my friends parents live in a place where emissions will never happen, so there were talks about me registering it out there. Anyone ever done this before????
