So I have been searching and can't quite find an answer... Somewhere I heard that OBD1 cars don't have to have emissions anymore. Also I heard that cars 20 years and older don't have to have emissions. I am new to NC and just couldn't get an answer from anyone. So does anyone know? Thanks in advance.

As far as I know - anything older than 1996 is safety only now. I've got a 91 prelude and it's no big deal come inspection time.....

edit: from http://www.ncdot.org:

Effective July 1, 2002, all 1996 and newer gasoline-powered vehicles registered in an emissions county are required to receive the On Board Diagnostics(OBD II) emissions test. For further information regarding Emissions and Inspections please refer to the Emissions & Inspection Section under Vehicle Services.
