with an sr20 swap would you pass just the tail pipe test. I'm talking about just a stock motor with no mods and all the jdm emissions equipment still on.

a guy i know locally passed the sniffer with a high flow cat and no other emissions equipment on the car, watched the test myself and made sure there was no funny business going on. passed with flying colors, even with bigger turbo, JWT ECU, 50LB/HR injectors, 3" exhaust, and i can't remember what else.

but then again, i guess the numbers are different for different states.

Well in terms of "sr20 swap" there is a lot of difference. First off, removal of the AIV will not hurt your emissions as long as your car is warmed up when you get it tested. Other than that it makes a difference what emissions equipment is left on which engine. The redtop only has the AIV and a cat, however, the later blacktops from S14's have and EGR and other crap. I dont think you will pass if you remove that from a blacktop. As for a redtop, check my sig. for actual emissions numbers. Everyone throws info around about emissions but other than my numbers I have only found one other person with an actual emissions report for an SR.

If your talking about Washington state, my friend just passed his S14 SR today by a good margin.

S14 SR had: No EGR, had a charcoal canister, S15 T28, FMIC, HKS SSQV. And it passed at about half the legal limit.
