Emissions removed?

Well i know alot more about OBD2 cars than yours, but i can tell you EGR is one thing you want to remove. It recirculates exhuast fumes into your intake manifold. Do a search on EGR with the glowing blinking red SEARCH button at the top of your page and you'll find out how.

How many miles on your 89? In all honesty if the EGR is not severely blocked just leave it. I do admit removing it does clean up the engine bay somewhat. Also theres a changeable filter in one of the containers I believe. I removed the system on my 89, left it in my current 90.
